What’s the overall theme / general inspiration behind the 2016/17 outerwear?
The FW16/17 collections are the result of a true collaboration between everybody who has ever been a customer, buyer, employee, or fan of Nitro snowboards.

As this line was designed for the entire Nitro family it needed to encompass two critical things:

1. Built for good times

2. Technically superior product created specifically for snowboarders

nitro-alagna37.5-jacket-cascade37.pngKEY PRODUCT FOCUS: What are the two most important products of your 2016/17 line? Why? Tell us about them please.
The two most important products for our line is the Alagna 37.5 jacket. This is the prime example of a technically superior product as we use the highest performing fabric and best available trims and fabric. The second is the Shaper Choice jacket – this jacket represents our collaboration and involvement in snowboarding. This is the jacket that the qparks crew wears on the mountains. It is tested and shapers approved.

What type of client are you targeting with the collection?
Pioneers is for the guy looking for function first, and has a higher budget to pay for the those added features. He understands the benefits of the technology we use and seeks it out at the retail level.

Goodtimes is driven by the customer who needs gear that will perform all winter long with all the basic features 10k/10k waterproof/breathability, good fabric, and value.  The Goodtimes mixes classic styling, street style with snowboarding functions. If you can only buy one jacket you buy a goodtimes jacket.

Are your price points going up or down?
They are staying the same, exchange rates are favourable.

What new fits / silhouettes will you be showing, in pants & jackets?
We have new pant fits such as the Ergo Slim fit, and our regular fit is slimmer over all too.

What’s new in colours / prints?
We have a reflective print that doesn’t look reflective in regular light. It just looks like a tone on tone print – then when light hits it, it lights up! Colours are earthy with pops of burgundy, gold, chili.

What new technical stories are you offering that you haven’t offered to retailers previously?
We are offering 37.5 insulation in our Pioneers line which completes the 37.5 story. In previous years we used Primaloft but we have decided to offer the full system of 37.5 and increase the added benefit of moisture removal on the insulation level.

What trends have you seen in outerwear that are very HOT?
Technical is back

…and, of course, what trends are NOT?
Soggy outerwear

BASE LAYER BOX OUT: Do you do baselayers? What’s happening here, what’s your key new offering next year and what makes it great?
We have baselayers using 37.5 technology. We have full suits, crew necks and ¾ length pants.

The 16/17 collections are the result of a true collaboration between everybody who has ever been a customer, buyer, employee, or fan of Nitro snowboards.

And as this line was designed for the entire Nitro family it needed to encompass two critical things:

1. Built for good times

2. Technically superior product created specifically for snowboarders

KEY PRODUCT FOCUS: What are the two most important products of your 2016/17 line? Why? Tell us about them please.
For women’s it would be the Chersky 37.5 jacket. It offers our 37.5 technology in the fabric and also in the insulation too. We don’t dumb anything down for the women’s collection. As a woman I often find the women’s lines don’t offer as much technical options as mens.

Secondly, the Tate pant is an important pant with our new boyfriend fit. Designed to be worn low on the hips with a tapered leg. The price and fit are totally on point with this pant.

What type of client are you targeting with the collection?
The pioneers collection is for the women who has a slightly higher budget and is looking for superior function and fit in a snowboard jacket. She doesn’t sacrifice style for function and expects the best value for the price.

Goodtimes line is driven by the customer who needs gear that will perform all winter long with all the basic features; 10k/10k waterproof/breathability, good fabric, and value.

We have new fits such as the Boyfriend fit and also our regular fit is slimmer over all too.

What’s new in colours / prints?
We have a reflective print that doesn’t look reflective in regular light. It just looks like a tone on tone print – then when light hits it, it lights up! Women’s colour trend is jewel tones like dusty pink, dusty purple, burgundy and emerald.

What new technical stories are you introducing that you haven’t offered to retailers previously?
For the women’s program, we offer a newly designed pant program where we have updated our fits to be more on trend and slimmer overall – the best selling pants were always our slim fit pants. Now our Regular fit is actually our old “Slim fit” and our Boyfriend fit now has the most tapered leg.

What trends have you seen in outerwear that are very HOT?
Feminine lines, and perfect fits

…and, of course, what trends are NOT?
Oversized and tall t styles.
