Where are the main trends in your protection range for 2017/18?
We are one of the few manufacturers to have every one of our protector backpacks TÜV certified and safety tested (GS mark). This test standard of the German TÜV, a private sector regulatory and safety inspection body, is the highest test standard worldwide. It assumes CE marking, which is then supplemented by additional strict tests for even more product safety.

Not only our professionals rely on this for their most challenging descents, but every “regular” winter sports enthusiast also benefits from extra safety, which, in a worst case scenario, provides protection for their backs against serious injury from falls.

For 2017, you can again look forward to a number of new models in our popular and tested FR range – models that are optimally aligned to your particular type of use, both in terms of volume and features.

In the PROTECTION WEAR segment we will continue to combine protection technology with a stylish piece of cloth, which offers outstanding wearing comfort. We work mainly with EPS protectors for vital important areas as it has the best properties here (temperature insensitive, very flexible, very light) and use Visco elastic foam concepts from SAS Tec for joint protection like shoulders. Visco elastic foams don´t work in the vital areas as they are very sensitive to temperature changes and can loose a huge part of their damping properties when too hot or cold.

Do you have any new product release planned?
No, we’re not offering a new product for the 2017/18 collection. Our newest product has been the ENDURO SHIRT, which is a supplement to our PROTECTOR BACKPACKS and offers protection for shoulders and paddings for your chest.

Are there any innovations happening to talk about?
We can see a general improvement of action in the whole protector segment. As helmets developed as a common accessory over the recent years, now people start to wonder how they could protect themselves additionally.

The back/ spine is the next big topic here. Most freeriders start using a backpack with an integrated back protector – as they need a backpack anyway. And park and freestyle kids are looking more and more for new back protector solutions. Functionality and comfort is the key here. In boardsports we don´t see knee protectors that much -except from vert riding of course.

Where do you stand on the issue of hard vs. soft materials in your protection?
Good soft protector concepts have the same damping properties, sometimes even better, as hardshell solutions. We work mainly with EPS protectors for vital important areas as it has the best properties here (temperature insensitive, very flexible, very light) and use Visco elastic foam concepts from SAS Tec for joint protection like shoulders. Visco elastic foams don’t work in the vital areas as they are very sensitive to temperature changes and can lose a huge part of their damping properties when too hot or cold.

What about price points, what is your standard here and where is the development going?
Price points differ from target groups: our protector vests for 100,- EUR are bestsellers as well as protector backpacks for 150,-.

In which area do you see the biggest growth in the protection market?
We see the protection market as one of the strongest growing markets. As helmets are common these days’ people becoming aware now that it might makes sense to protect other parts of their body, too. Not only the sports gear got much better the recent years making higher speed possible but also the access to more demanding terrain got easier. Plus media is pushing the topic more and more.

Please take us through three key products:
We have two main categories of products which offer protection, PROTECTOR BACKPACKs and PROTECTION WEAR.

PROTECTOR BACKPACKS:
We are one of the few manufacturers to have every one of our protector backpacks TÜV certified and safety tested (GS mark). This test standard of the German TÜV, a private-sector regulatory and safety inspection body, is the highest test standard worldwide.

For 2017, you can again look forward to a number of new variations in our popular and tested FR range – models that are optimally aligned to your particular type of use, both in terms of volume and features.

PROTECTION WEAR:
Our PROTECTION WEAR combines the comfort of modern functional clothing with certified protection of our PROTECTOR TECHNOLOGY. The perfect fit and selected materials make for optimal protection in any kind of sport. We use the same protectors in our PROTECTION WEAR products as we use in our PROTECTOR BACKPACKS. If we include shoulder protectors we’ll use SAS-TEC protectors and some of our PROTECTOR VESTs offer paddings on hip bones, collarbones and the chest.
