Basque Country Set To Host Second Edition Of Pro Zarautz

The Basque Country is set to host the second edition of the Pro Zarautz this April after a highly successful event last year. The bay of Zarautz is an ideal location for the contest with a very consistent, good quality, beach break along the lengthy bay. 

Press Release: ZARAUTZ, Basque Country – Spain (Tuesday, March 7, 2017) — The Pro Zarautz will come back in its second edition from April 19-23 as a men and women’s QS1,500 in the Basque Country. A huge success last year, the event crowned Jonathan Gonzalez and Pauline Ado as the event champions.

A long and rich history of competitive surfing has made Zarautz the focal point of development of the sport in the Basque Country and attracted talented surfers from all-over the world over the past decade. Past champions crowned in Zarautz include Gabriel Medina, Ramzi Boukhiam and local hero Aritz Aranburu amongst others.

The Pro Zarautz will be the third stop on the European Qualifying Series April leg and offer another opportunity for regional surfers to build their rankings throughout the first half of the season.

The half-moon shaped bay of Zarautz provides an ideal playground for professional surfers to perform and display the ever improving level of progression in surfing.

The inaugural edition in 2016 unfolded in pristine conditions with consistent and clean four-to-six foot surf and major crowds assembling on the beachfront to enjoy the spectacle.
