This September marks the 30th anniversary of the Pull & Bear Pantín Classic Galicia Pro at the stunning beach of Pantín in Spain. The event has continued to grow each year and 2017 looks set to smash all previous records with regards to both competitors and spectators.
Press Release: A year to make history
Next September marks three decades since the beginning of a championship that has become renowned worldwide. Thirty uninterrupted years have passed since the beach of Pantín has shone its own light within the World Surfing constellation. The jaw dropping numbers of the last contest highlight the relevance of the event – it’s believed that more than 55,000 people passed through its facilities during the six days of the competition and 132,871 were hooked to the contest via live webcast. But the Pull & Bear Pantin Classic Galicia Pro, which will be held from August 29 to September 3 in the emblematic Valdoviño, is promising to break all records.
In fact, it has, in both the male and the female, the highest category in its history. It will distribute 6,000 points to the winners of each category, making the Pull & Bear Pantin Classic Galicia Pro one of the most important events in Europe and key in the World Championship qualifying circuit QS. This has meant that some of the big names in today’s surfing world have already confirmed their presence in the championship despite there being still almost 20 days left before the registration deadline. The Portuguese Frederico Morais, the Frenchman Joan Duru, the Californian Kanoa Igarashi (current champion) and the Galician Gony Zubizarreta have already signed up for the men’s competition; The Hawaiian Coco Ho, the French Pauline Ado and the Basque Leticia Canales have done the same in the female category.
The party, not just at sea
But the Pull & Bear Pantin Classic Galicia Pro is more than just a surfing championship. In the 4,000 square metres that will occupy the contest and in which a hundred people will work, there will be room for the official Pull & Bear store, Espacio Mahou, food trucks, a skate ramp, seminars on sports medicine by professionals from the Hospital Quirón, and there will be a Tourist Information office where visitors will be provided with information regarding the points of interest of the region of Ferrolterra and Galicia.
In addition, within the program Pantín Ecosurf, the organisation will be enforcing their commitment to the natural environment with programmed activities to raise public awareness with regards to the conservation of the environment. Environmental talks will be held and waste collection will be carried out on the beach where the event is held.
