Mick Fanning Joins Ownership Group Of Creatures Of Leisure

Mick Fanning has joined the ownership group of Creatures of Leisure. Fanning’s contract was up for renewal and instead of continuing as a professional, he’ll now be stepping upstairs to “get his hands dirty.” Fanning has also alluded to the inclusion of new product categories for the company under his new role.

Press Release: Creatures of Leisure are thrilled to today announce that three-time world champion Mick Fanning has joined the company’s ownership group. Thirty-six-year-old Fanning, who first joined the Creatures team at age 16, is equally as excited by the latest development in his two-decade long connection with the world’s premier surf accessories brand.

“Creatures of Leisure and I have always had a fantastic relationship,” says Fanning, “and this is obviously a huge vote of confidence in the company and the quality of their product. I see a lot of potential for growth, and can see us moving forward in a few new areas too.”

Fanning’s upgraded involvement with Creatures of Leisure came about as his sponsorship contract was due for renewal. “We started talking about future plans and ownership was put on the table as a way of me becoming more involved in the business” says Fanning, “and I thought that sounded absolutely perfect!”

“Creatures have been doing a great job for 30 years without me so I’m more than happy to let the people who’ve got it to where it is keep it going!” laughs Fanning. “I picture my role being more as a sounding board, and working on the research and development front, which has always been something I’ve enjoyed.

“I’m really looking forward to getting my hands a little dirtier to create the best and most user-friendly products on the market. I’m in the water all day testing leashes and tailpads, and carrying boardbags around the world every other week, so I can turn feedback around really quickly. Creatures already produce the best accessories on the market, and I can’t wait to help make them even better in future!”

Creatures of Leisure management echo Fanning’s sentiments, and couldn’t be happier with this week’s announcement. “We really are stoked to have Mick join the ownership group and become even more involved in our business,” says Creatures of Leisure Director & CEO Nathan Omodei. “Over the years Mick has grown into so much more than a three-time world champion, and his expertise and insights are going to be invaluable to us on a number of levels in the future.”
