Globe Skate Footwear SS18 Preview

Retail Buyers Guide:  Skate Footwear SS18

How is the overall health of the European skate shoes market right now? What are the biggest markets?
While the overall skate shoe market is being dominated by the “bigger” players, Globe continues to hold its market share.
As a pure performance cupsole shoe, David Gonzalez’ Eagle has been well received in skate stores, in particular the colorways developed for 2 of our European skaters, Charles Collet and Fries Taillieu.  Mark Appleyard’s Mahalo shoes still continues to perform well with its functional skate performance and easy to wear styling, and the Willow is a minimalist design with key added skate features (such as PU footbed for impact control), but at a competitive price point, and sell through has been very solid.
Our main markets include France, Germany, and the UK.

What are the cuts, silhouettes and materials for Spring Summer 2018?
2 x new low cuts plus a 1 new heritage silhouette. Materials for spring are usually keeping in tune with the season… Breathable and lightweight canvas / twills combined with suede for skatability.

What are the hot trends of the season? Return of 1990s models with new tech? Mid-tops? What do you say?
Keeping true to the brand is a seasonally mandate year in year out. We don’t essentially chase trends, we respect them with shapes and volumes and colours but we need to stick to our roots and personality of the brand so it remains true. As we are a product of the 90s we always keep in check this look with our heritage series of shoes ranging from the CT-IV Classic bulletproof skate shoe to our surf trek Dover slip mid-top shoe (which is a hot pick for the team for apres skate).

It appears that customers are willing to pay extra money for performance technology. What are your most important tech stories for the season?
We the make the heaviest impact resistant shoe you can get. David Gonzalez needed a shoe that would save his feet from blowing apart hence the crazy thick full volume PU footbed and Shogun rubber outsole combination on his pro shoe The Eagle SG. Its a serious shoe….

Please point out the 3 key products in your collection that retailers HAVE to keep on their radar and tell us the story.
New Filmore casual model, New Empire SG skate model and the GS Chukka…. These 3 shoes have all you need from Comfort + footbeds for all day chilling I the GS Chukka to skate carnage with a classic sports look and feel in the New Empire SG and an absolute universal silhouette in the Filmore model – this shoe will complement every outfit from head to toe…..
