The team at Burton Europe celebrated the retirement of Hermann Kapferer, their former GM, with a surprise party. Kapferer had been with the company for 32 years having met Burton founder, Jake Burton, at a tradeshow in 1985 and forming a great business and personal bond. Since January (with the foresight of Hermann’s retirement), there has been a joint leadership team in Innsbruck, with Franck Waterlot leading Sales, Marketing and Product and Oliver Zaletel overseeing Finance, Operations and HR.
In Germany, the team are in the process of shifting sales to a direct model, with a new Country Manager in place named Benjamin Schwarz who will be based in Munich. The Burton ‘hub’, in Munich, is a result of this plan which will act as the gateway to the German outdoor market. This new Munich home base will include a storefront, office space and a sales showroom.
Burton Europe will also be expanding to Zurich, Switzerland with the opening of another ‘hub’ that will act as the flagship store, showroom and office space. Located in a prime tourist area of the city, the Zurich store opened to the public on September 8th with a grand opening celebration on September 21st.
