The opening qualification rounds of the 19th Cable Wakeboard Europe & Africa Championships 2017 were held this past weekend at the Sliders Cablepark El Gouna, Egypt. There was an impressive display of riding on show, especially in the youth categories. Further details of the program going forward can be found below.
Press Release: The 2017 E&A Cable Wakeboard Championships for Junior and Senior categories have officially been opened during an opening ceremony which took place at the Campus El Gouna – TU Berlin on Sunday night. 119 riders from 22 different nations entered the competition representing the highest number of nations that have ever taken part in E&A history. As the championships are split in 2 competitions, the stage first belongs to all Wakeboarders and Wakeskaters of the Youth and Senior Categories (until Wed, 29th of Nov.), followed by the competitors of all Wakeboard & Wakeskate Open Categories (Thu, 30th Nov. and Fri, 1st of Dec.)
During the qualifications in all 7 categories, people on site were able to witness an impressive level of riding especially among the Girls, Boys and Juniors. These youngsters presented a lot of amazing tricks on a very high level, leaving the judges and many of the older riders speechless. In the Girls category (under 15) Aurelie Godet from France took the lead. The 14 year-old Russian Marina Kacheeva, starting in a higher age category, even managed to win her qualification heat in Junior Ladies (under 19), showing a Back Mobe and even a Toeside Railey 360, surely putting some pressure on her older opponents. Favorites Marie Grüneberg (GER), Klaudia Nagy (HUN) and Claudia Pagnini (ITA) made it straight to the finals, while the others need to go through Last Chance Qualification.
In the Boys category (under 15) outstanding riding was seen from several of the 30 competitors, including a Raley Backside 540 by young Spanish ripper Raul Lopez. Loic Deschaux (FRA) showed a heavy and super clean run as well as Alessandro Dagostino (ITA), Kieran Owens (GB) and Max Milde (GER), all of them winning their Qualification heats.
For the Junior Men category it is pretty unpredictable who will be able to win this championships as the level of riding is stepping up enormously every year. Throughout the qualification day some favorites appeared, such as the reigning IWWF World Champion Oliver Orban (HUN), same as Louis Mistaudy (FRA) and Flo Weiherer (GER), all winning their heats. Besides clean and stylish feature hits they all showed insane and also unique tricks, e.g. Patrick Hanes (CZ) landing an Eastmobe, Philipp Koch (GER) doing switch 315 and Liam Peacock (GB) even earning the “trick of the day” with a Tantrum to Backlip transfer from a kicker to the Rainbow Box, just to mention a few highlights.
The Masters (30+) and Veterans (40+) were riding on a very high level and doing hard tricks as well, the outcome in these 2 categories remains very exciting too.
Today (Tue, 28th Nov.), Wakeskaters of both categories, Junior Men and Junior Ladies will hit the water and we can expect a very high standard in their bag of tricks.
