The Freeride Junior Tour (FJT) and Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ) will see an international showdown of riders at three Qualifier 2* events, and at one Junior 2* event featuring 2 age categories; 10-14 and 14-18.
Press Release: Lutry, Switzerland – January 4, 2018 – With bountiful early season snowfalls in the Western Alps offering excellent freeride conditions, riders representing more than 21 nations will make the trip to Verbier, Switzerland to kickoff the competition season on the Freeride Junior Tour (FJT) and the Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ).
The ten day competition program will feature one junior and three FWQ 2 * events, giving riders ample opportunity to earn points early in the season and advance their ranking. In addition to the competitions, a festive atmosphere on the slopes and in the Verbier village will feature activities such as ski tests, scavenger hunts, snow park sessions, Yoga, judge’s clinics, and evening activities with run replays at the legendary Pub Mont Fort.
The Verbier Freeride Week 2018 FWQ athlete roster will feature many strong riders who threw down impressive runs at last year’s events, and are sure to guarantee a good show and innovative riding this year. In addition, some of the top Juniors have graduated onto the FWQ and will give veteran riders a run for their money.
90 riders will be competing in the 14-18 junior category, offering these young guns a chance to test out their competition skills. Thanks to the new younger age category (u-14), some of these Junior athletes will also watch their younger siblings compete for the first time.
With a dense action-packed program and tons of riders hailing from all over the world, this year’s Verbier Freeride Week is going to be one to remember.
