What is THE hot new trend in your goggle line for FW18/19?
It’s not new, but we are more customizable than ever with around 6000 possibilities to cater for all customer tastes. Continuing with ZEISS as standard across our line, and having the ZEISS SONAR lenses for a second season too. Instead of looking for trends, the customizable nature of Melon means we let the customers decide how their eyewear should look.
Lenses: What are your most popular tints? Are there any technical innovations to talk about for next season?
We see a fairly even split across silver, green, blue and red chrome lens tints. A high percentage of our customers also add an extra low light yellow lens to their purchase for bad weather days. On the tech side, the Sonar by ZEISS lenses are exciting, they provide enhanced contrast in a broad range of conditions which means clarity from the first till the last chair.
Frames: What system(s) are you working with? Any innovations / new features here?
Since 2017 we are using only our own developed frame shapes. No stock shapes – these are frames developed and tested by us and our team to ensure they fit, work and look perfect. We see added venting on all frames. All frames feature the buckles for the quick change strap system.
What about the colour and pattern highlights for 18/19? Are they tied to other parts of your range/product offerings?
The Melon Concept is to not reinvent the wheel every season, so the majority of our line consists of carryover top seller. However, we have some fun new seasonal injections to keep things interesting. We have some street inspired patterns such as Bandana prints and paint splatters, earthy outdoor inspirations in the form of topographic designs and also introduce our first special edition Artist Design strap.
Which collabs do you have in store?
Our first collab in Winter will be with a UK based artist who has designed a unique limited edition strap for us, which will come with its own soft microfibre bag design and packaging.
Any interesting marketing stories?
The in-store iPad customizer is entering even more partner stores this Winter taking the custom optics concept to Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Andorra, UK, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Sweden.
