Reef is proud to announce the recent resigning of long
time brand ambassador and current ASP World Champion, Mick Fanning to a
5-year contract. The negotiations unfolded naturally as both Reef and
Fanning were excited to continue the strong bond that has developed
over the last 2 decades.
Fanning joined the Reef team back in 1995, establishing
himself as one of Reef’s elite footwear team riders along with the
likes of Rob Machado and Sofia Mulanovich. “I'm so stoked to continue
my relationship with Reef, they have been my longest sponsor along with
DHD (surfboards),” said Fanning. “I have been wearing Reef shoes and
sandals for as long as I can remember. The people who work there are
like family which makes the partnership that much easier.”
Reef’s team manager, Heath ‘Nutty’ Walker shares a close
relationship with Fanning as the both grew up together on the Gold
Coast of Australia and once were teammates on the Reef program before
Walker transitioned into his current role. “The relationship with Mick
and Reef must continue,” remarked Walker.
“It's such a genuine story as Mick has ridden for Reef for
over 13 years. The brand has seen him progress through National titles,
Pro Junior series, and the grueling WQS. It was satisfying to see him
get onto the WCT and then to win the 2007 ASP World Title was
sensational.”
Reef is celebrating Fanning’s current ASP World Title with a
Limited Edition update to his famous Fanning Sandal. The “Champion
Edition” Fanning sandal is in-stores now rocking Italian full grain
leather upper, World Champ commemorative logo, gold – plated bottle
opener and Reef’s guaranteed fit, quality and comfort. Mick has
currently been working with Reef’s designers for the next stage of the
Fanning sandal, top secret and set to release Spring 2009.
