COFFIN ON CAKE TO ASSIST THE BLUE® CLIMATE AND OCEANS PROJECT

22 May 2008

Coffin on Cake are proud to announce their support for The BLUE® Climate & Oceans Project with immediate effect.

The UK based Publicity Agency, Coffin on Cake, will be working alongside The BLUE® Climate & Oceans Project to publicise it’s ongoing environmental program and promote it’s exceptional international sporting ambassadors.

Founded by world-class sailing hero and oceanographer Conrad Humphreys, The BLUE® Project is a Sports Environment initiative that showcases some of the worlds most inspiring sports men and women, their projects and adventures, their experiences of natural environments, and their standing as role models, to educate, inspire and motivate individuals to reduce their impact on the world’s climate and oceans.

“It has always concerned me the way we treat the ocean in two quite contradictory ways” says Humphreys, “We see the ocean as a great carpet – we can lift up the corner and sweep away our rubbish – out of sight, out of mind. Or we see it as an endless treasure chest we can take what we want and it will, as if by magic, self-replenish and never run out. We now know that both assumptions are dangerously wrong.”

Coffin on Cake Director, Dean Bennett, said “The BLUE® Project is an incredibly inspiring environmental program. People, especially young people, aspire to sports stars and the lifestyles they lead. BLUE®’s ambassadors come from a variety of sporting backgrounds but share common ground in the amazing natural sights they witness. They see the power of mother nature first hand, they also get to see what damage is being done to our natural environments, making them ideal people to motivate change in people.”

Current BLUE® ambassadors include, Polar expedition team Rob Guantlett and James Hooper who at just 20 years old have completed a mammoth expedition to travel from pole to pole using only environmental methods of transport, World Champion Kitesurfer Steph Bridge, European Champion snowboarder Dan Wakeham, and Roxy skipper Sam Davies who is currently competing in the solo ocean challenge the Artemis Transat. Coffin on Cake will work alongside The BLUE® Project to continue growing it’s ambassador group, seeking out the best individuals from a variety of ‘blue’ sports.

This summers numerous BLUE® events and ambassador projects include the Archipelago Raid in Scandinavia, Sara Campbell’s jaw dropping world-record freedive attempts in Egypt, Roz Savage’s solo Pacific ocean row that is scheduled to include a BLUE® beach clean in Hawaii, and a BLUE® exhibition at the House of Commons (London) where the UK’s sports minister and secretary of state for the environment will meet with BLUE® ambassadors to discuss the possibilities of the project prior to the Marine Bill being announced.

The Blue project is a Sports Environment initiative that works alongside the Marine Conservation Society and National Marine Aquarium. For more information about The BLUE® Climate & Oceans Project visit: www.theblueproject.org
