The pandemic has of course impacted our people, as it’s impacted humans around the world. The core tenet of the Cariuma brand is prioritizing and supporting people, so we have spent the past year making sure everyone is safe and cared for on our global team. On the brand and the business side, the pandemic has materialized and accelerated the other core tenant of sustainability that Cariuma was founded on. With people stuck at home, they have been able to reflect on their consumption and proactively make changes to live a more ecologically conscious life. From becoming more conscious of trash production to reflecting on their fashion consumption, customers are thinking more than ever about how to be most sustainable in their daily lives. Additionally, the coronavirus pushed consumers to explore individual activities in order to stay active during quarantine. Consumers have looked towards sports like skateboarding. The Catiba Pro has performed very well due to this influx in skateboarding and consumer interest in sustainably produced products

Cariuma’s Catiba Pro has a baseline price point of $89 and the highest price point of $130
What is your collection theme and which stories are you telling to get customers stoked on skate shoes this season?
Cariuma’s initial collection of Catiba Pros is telling a story about a skate team and skate sneaker that gives a f*ck about people and the environment. Cariuma wants to show that you can have a stylish and durable skate sneaker that’s great for the planet without compromising the quality and integrity found within the skate shoe community
What general trends are you noticing in Europe right now?
European shoes and fashions are trending towards sustainability, as many European countries are leading the world in conversations about sustainability and shifting societal norms to accommodate our mounting climate crisis. Consumers are much more concerned about the quality, ethical, and sustainable nature of the clothing they are purchasing
What is THE skate shoe style retailers need to stock this season?
Our classic Catiba Pro, is one of the most popular silhouettes of the Cariuma offerings. We’ve added more colorways including a vibrant blue and red, while recently introducing our high-top Catiba Pro, Catiba Pro has a shoe for every customer. Additionally, our newest addition to the skate family, the Mike Vallely x Cariuma, is our first pro-skate sneaker, and completely vegan suede shoe

Cariuma’s design philosophy trends towards classic and minimalist silhouettes, to focus on bettering the performance, durability, and skate-readiness of our shoes
Are you proud of any new technology in your shoes?
Our collaboration with Mike Vallely features our proprietary high-performance vegan suede. With consciousness being at the forefront of our products, we must keep in mind the rigor of skateboarding and the need for a great skate shoe to be durable. Our high-performance vegan suede is 2.7x more resistant to abrasion than animal suede, so all the features of our Catiba Pro are in a new 100% vegan offering
