Brand:  Oakley
Interviewee: Laurent Vogt, Global AFA Category Manager Snow

Please provide an overview of how 2021/22 is shaping up for your brand. Has COVID-19 affected your line? If so, please explain the changes you have made, and how you came to these decisions.

2021 has been a very good year for Oakley. The FW22 prebook season has been a success and we are very happy about the results and the trend. Results are great and 2022 promises to be a very good year. Covid-19 hasn’t impacted a lot our line. Of course, we had to adapt our plans and to re-allocate some of our styles to other vendors but overall we were able to deliver the products to our accounts/customers on time thanks to our early fabric commitment.

What is the overall theme behind your FW 22/23 outerwear range? From which big trends do you take your inspiration?

Everything is starting from our Team Collection and the key-look assortments that we are creating for our athletes (Sage Kotsenburg, Stale Sandbech and Jamie Anderson). We have developed a specific print for each of their collections. For Sage we are using an allover tie dye print jacket inspired by a snow mountain, for Stale a crackle print and a skull patch logo used on a color blocked jacket, for Jamie a bandana print used on a color blocked jacket too. Ideas and trends are coming from a collaboration between our athletes and our design team. Our Team Collection is performing really well and better and better every season.

What new fits / silhouettes are coming out in FW 22/23? What pant and jacket styles are most important in your range?

The most important jacket and pant styles in our range are coming from our TNP line (Thermonuclear Protection). With this line we are aiming to target a younger consumer by using more bold and bright colorways from our heritage, prints and colorblocks and our B1B logo. Our 2 best-selling jackets are coming from the TNP line, the TNP TBT insulated anorak and the TNP TBT insulated jacket.

For FW22 we are introducing a new 2L 10K recycled softshell Bib for Stale Sandbech that has a looser fit. Also, we are focusing this season on layering that could be used as ON and OFF Mountain pieces.

A great piece is our new Park RC 10K Softshell Hoodie part of the TNP line. This Softshell hoodie at 140 euros can be used as a midlayer but also be considered as a jacket due to the 10K fabric. Affordable piece and good value for money !

What new colours / prints are you introducing?

We are introducing three new prints for our athletes and one new mainline camo print. Of course, we are keeping some of CORE colorways in the line like Blackout, New Dark Brush, Redline and we are bringing softer shades (really outdoor driven) with Hunter Green, Amber Yellow, Stone Grey and pop colors like Ultra Purple from our Heritage that we use more as accent colors on the products.

Any *NEW* technical stories with regards to fabrics and materials?

Yes, we are introducing a new sustainable story by using a biodegradable fabric (Bio-Earth) in Sage Kotsenburg’s jacket and pant. Bio-Earth is a comprehensive solution aiming to reduce the environmental impact of textile products. Bio-Earth collection is modified by organic compounds to enhance the biodegradation of our products in a biologically active landfill and is tested no harmful substances being released to the environment.

What are your top marketing stories for FW 22/23? This will help us to put some focus in the right place.

November 2022 will be a big moment for Oakley where we will launch our Snow Campaign featuring innovation not only in Apparel but also in Helmets and Goggles.
