O’Neill Hyperfreak Fire wins ISPO award

Unrivalled flexibility and revolutionary heat trapping technology convince the jury

First in, last out. Jack O’Neill’s life motto has always been the credo of product development at O’Neill, driven by innovation and the best possible performance. With the Hyperfreak Fire, unprecedented flexibility has been combined with extreme heat retention, enabling water sports athletes to perform at the highest level even in the toughest conditions.

TechnoButter4 (TB4) is the all-new, sustainable, buttery soft and heat recirculating material used in the Hyperfreak Fire. Recycled yarns reinforced with graphene fibres provide extra durability, unmatched thermal-retentive properties and elasticity. TB4 offers 150%-200% stretch in all directions for perfect fit and unrestricted movement. The Hyperfreak Fire’s fully sealed Fluid Seam construction prevents water from entering the suit. The TB4 Firewall, placed in the torso area and thighs, is the warmest and driest neoprene currently available.

The ISPO jury also recognised that the Hyperfreak Fire sets the new standard in terms of performance and justified the award (Q3/2022) as follows: “Unrestricted mobility even in cold weather and water conditions is made possible by the integration of heat-retaining graphene particles into the inner layer of the super-elastic TechnoButter neoprene. This makes the Hyperfreak Fire Wetsuit warmer than other wetsuits on the market, but without giving up the special stretch of O’Neill’s well-known Hyperfreak range.”

Tom Copsey, European Product Manager at O’Neill says: “It is a great privilege for everyone at O’Neill Wetsuits to be acknowledged for this prestigious ISPO award.  Since the beginning, Jack has ingrained innovation into our DNA with the Santa Cruz product team constantly striving to develop the World’s best wetsuits to keep you in the water longer.”

The Hyperfreak Fire convinces with high-performance materials, and also with its sustainable components. 100% of the laminated fabrics used are made with recycled plastics in their yarns. Carbon Black, a key component providing extra durability in Neoprene, is made from 100% recycled tires. In addition, lamination glues are made from non-solvent-based components and minerals used as a binder in the neoprene materials are made from discarded oyster shells. The Hyperfreak Fire is GRS (Global Recycle Standard) certified.

Together with the Blueprint and Psycho Tech wetsuits, the Hyperfreak Fire forms the TB4 family. TechnoButter4 was launched in autumn this year.
