Landline was two years in the making, created by director Tanner Pendleton and with a cast spanning generations featuring old school legends such as Bryan Iguchi, Jamie Lynn, Wolle Nyvelt and young bloods Dillon Ojo, Sam Taxwood, Cole Navin and Jake Kuzyk are reckless abandon incarnate, yet to have formed their fear bone! And then there are all the riders in between who have earned their place on the Vans team thanks to fantastic combinations of creativity, power, progression, style and determination.

The diversity of riders on the team reflects Vans’ eclectic approach to snowboarding and their broad reaching appeal: Pat Moore and Arthur Longo delivered parts highlighting just why they are considered two of the world’s finest, while the likes of Darrell Mathes and Danimals produced masterful street performances – something they have become synonymous with in recent years. Blake Paul showed just why Vans are giving him a pro model the North Face collab boot for the 18/19 season, delivering a section oozing with style and creativity, with a tidy hybrid style somewhere between Nicolas Muller and Gigi Ruf.

A cast of riders so elite was always going to deliver on the snowboard front, and while the riding was top class, the director’s ability to encapsulate and portray each rider’s personality and riding style in their respective parts is incredible. Glowing reports from each rider – 90% of whom hadn’t seen the film before the premiere – all stoked with just what Tanner has managed to achieve with Landline.

Kevin Casillo (Vans Marketing Manager for Snow & Surf) was instrumental in pulling the film together in a producer role and spoke to SOURCE about the film’s concept: “Shot primarily on Kodak 16mm, the film documents the raw talents and eclectic personalities of the Vans snowboard team as they travel all over the world. Featuring full parts from some of the biggest names in modern snowboarding, alongside up-and-comers, and pioneers.”

We asked Kevin to explain just what Vans set out to achieve with the film. “LANDLINE. aims to put the true spirit and culture of snowboarding on display. The theme of the film is to reconnect the culture back into snowboarding, inspire and reignite the flame for the next generation of riders.”

Tanner Pendleton, the film’s director, as previously mentioned has received huge plaudits from the riders, and in his own words, Tanner sets out how he views the project: “Snowboard films have always provided me with endless amounts of inspiration. They introduced me to a culture that consumed me and ultimately gave me a direction in life. I want this film to reach out to kids out there the same way these films reached me when I was young. What makes this film special is the group of filmmakers and snowboarders that came together to make it happen. This collaborative vision is a true expression of some of the most real and dedicated people in snowboarding. Working alongside my best friends and people I truly admire is something I’ll never forget.”

Looking at how Vans will measure the project’s success, Kevin talks key performance indicators: “In terms of KPI’s, we see LANDLINE. helping grow and maintain Vans Snow awareness in the market place, inspire and enable the next generation of riders, and also showcase the level of content that Vans has created.
