SROKA SUP 2025 PREVIEW
Retail Buyers Guide: SUP 2025 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand: Sroka
Interviewee: Marketing Team
In our previous S/S 25 SUP Buyer’s Guide, most indicators showed the 2022-23 overstocks were mostly cleared out. Did 2024 ended on the same note with a better demand vs. offer balance?
The paddle market has really gone downhill. The average price of a paddle has to be low, provided it doesn’t sell. So we’re losing out on quality and moving towards lower-priced products. The overstocking has eased, but the market isn’t picking up as it did before the covid.
Cheaper entry-level iSUPs represent the bulk of the sales but the segment is flooded with brands and products, whereas more advanced SUPs offer better margins. How do you intend to position your brand on the market spectrum in 2025?
We have three price levels. Entry-level, mid-range and high-end. But the market is moving more and more towards the entry-level.
Which are your key inflatable models for 2025 in the Allround/Cruising segments?
We’ve kept the same ranges for several years, and the Cruising segment still offers good prospects for development. The all-around segment is losing market share; The Easy range (mid-range) in 11’6 x 32 or 12’6x 32 is one of our best sellers. In the high-end range, the Alpha 14′ are our best sellers in this segment.
Which Specialty iSUP are you pushing in 2025: Race & Flatwater, River, Fishing, SUP-Kayak…?
This year we’ll be pushing the crusing/racing side of things in flat water, as the water sports market is doing better than the consumer market. So the Alpha range in 12’6 and 14 or the Easy range in 11’6 and 12’6 becomes an alternative to the current market.
There has been a relative status quo the past 3 years regarding new technologies & materials? Do you have some exciting news to share for the year coming or did the SUP products reach maturity concerning designs/constructions?
There’s no miracle or revolution. To put it simply, an inexpensive product has a simplified construction (fewer layers of PVC, fewer thicknesses of PVC.) As you move upmarket, the number of layers of PVC increases, as does the quality. Paddle construction has reached maturity.
(hardboard brands only) The opportunity for hardboard sales seem to be whether in the school/rental area or in the high-end performance models. Do you cater to this demand?
Not at all. For us, this is not a growth market at all, and it’s very expensive in terms of transport and the potential for breakage.
How are you supporting retailers through this difficult period?
