Mons Royale Base Layers F/W 2026/27 Preview

Retail Buyers Guide:  Base Layers F/W 2026/27 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand:  Mons Royale
Interviewee: Marketing Team

How was the base layer market in 2024/25?
The outdoor market has been steady this year. We’re seeing our community get that much more out of their base layers year on year, and that’s exactly what they’re designed for. Our base layers are more than just base layers. We’ve always challenged the status quo in this space, with versatile products designed to go that much further. Our upcoming range only reinforces us as an outdoor brand with products that perform across snow sports, bike parks, mountain missions and wherever the weekend takes us. And look good doing it. We’re stoked to see Mons showing up in so many spaces.

Are there any new trends in your segment?
More and more outdoor brands are bringing Merino Wool into their ranges. It’s exciting to see people shifting away from synthetics to a more natural alternative, and more Merino showing up in the performance space is a great indicator that conversations are shifting. And, as a brand built around Merino Wool, it’s super exciting to be at the spearhead of this change.

What are the key materials you are using?
Merino Wool is the key ingredient in all our base layers, and not just because it’s better for the planet than synthetic alternatives. Made for mountains, Merino Wool is nature’s performance fibre: naturally temperature regulating, moisture wicking, and odour resistant. It’s a real all-rounder. Whether it’s a sweaty summer mission or a winter shred session, Merino Wool keeps you cool when it’s hot and warm when it’s not. Quick drying and fresher for longer, it’s perfect for mountain biking, snow sports, hiking, running and all the outdoor adventures in between. We use ZQRX certified Merino Wool from a handful of merino stations down the road from our New Zealand base. Think mountain sheep that roam the same hills we do. All our products proudly use a unique blend of Merino Wool engineered for optimised performance across categories. The Cascade, for example, uses a 180gsm Merino Flex fabric that’s the perfect weight and feel for a ski base layer. Meanwhile, our Icon tee features a slightly lighter blend of Merino Air-Con (nature’s air conditioning) for year-round use. The Yotei is our original loose-fit base layer made from 100% Merino Wool, with all the tech benefits of nature’s performance fibre.

Do you have any innovations here for 2026/27 or other tech news?
In a world still running largely on cheap synthetics, we’re always innovating. Our planet can’t afford not to. The world is waking up to the fact we need to move away from petroleum-based fabrics, and we’re a big believer that Merino Wool is a key part of the solution. Part of that innovation means following the wool right back to the farm, which is something we’re really proud of. Our wool is sourced directly from our ‘Growers Club’, nine merino farms not far from our home hills of Wānaka, New Zealand. We’re proud to follow the wool from sheep to tee, partnering with people who believe in the value of quality products, sustainability, and social responsibility as much as we do. We know exactly where our materials come from and how they’re produced. And that’s a lot more than synthetics can tell you about who their oil farmer is.

What colours and patterns are you working with?
We’re always challenging the status quo with our products, and a big part of that is bringing big energy, prints, colours, and styles to a pretty bland category. Our 2026 season is no different, with a range of new patterns, colours and styles designed to match the stoke on the hill. Our new Mountain Mad graphic is a key part of that for the upcoming 2026 season, with a super positive early response already.
