The Snowboard Asylum acquires The Reason Snowboard Magazine and Snowboard Spring Break

Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports and The Snowboard Asylum today announced the acquisition of The Reason Snowboard Magazine and the Snowboard Spring Break event from Black Heart Limited, bringing both entities under the stewardship of the UK’s premiere snowboard retailer.

Ian Sansom, founder of The Reason and Snowboard Spring Break, and Managing Director of Black Heart Limited said ‘We’re pumped to complete this deal and can’t wait to bring our mag and event back to market under the ownership of such a great family of brands. Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports and TSA are uniquely placed to propel The Reason and Snowboard Spring Break forwards and they ‘get’ what we’re trying to achieve, so having their online know-how, back-end support and logistics acumen will allow us to concentrate on the things we’re best at.

Chris Shannon, Head of Marketing for The Snowboard Asylum said ‘We are beyond stoked to bring The Reason and Snowboard Spring Break into the TSA family. We’ve worked with Ian and the team since their inception over a decade ago and know there’s space and a place for a UK snowboard magazine that reflects our unique scene as inhabitants of an island with very limited natural snow fall, but with an insatiable appetite for shredding and a massive stoke for snowboard culture. With Ian and James at the helm and TSA’s backing we know that The Reason and Snowboard Spring Break are in safe hands for the future.’

Rob Brigham, Managing Director of Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports said ‘To say that the Ellis Brigham Group is passionate about snowboarding is an understatement, it’s more personal than that. Since the formation of the TSA in the earliest days of the British snowboarding scene, it has been our pleasure to serve the snowboard community with the best advice and the best kit. We see The Reason Snowboard Magazine and Spring Break as essential lynchpins of the British scene and we are honoured to make a home for them going forward and building on their success to date.’

As a part of the deal, The Reason’s long serving photographer James North will be promoted to Editor, while Ian Sansom remains as Managing Editor. The Reason will reinforce it’s position as a print magazine, with an enhanced push into the digital realm, while Snowboard Spring Break will return to the mountains with a renewed focus on product testing and maintaining solid relationships between brands, retailers, media and riders. The Reason Snowboard Annual 2023 will be released in November 2022 and will available in newsagents for the first time as well as its traditional route to market through winter sports retailers. The first edition of the new look Snowboard Spring Break is set to take place in Austria in May 2023. A full range of merchandise will be launched to coincide with the mag drop, with a number of collaboration pieces already in the works.
