Melon Sunglasses 2026 Preview

Retail Buyers Guide:  Sunglasses 2026 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand:  Melon
Interviewee: Marketing Team

How was the sunglasses market overall in 2025?
I think a very mature one – many brands, much of the same thing and a need to stand out. Customers are looking for tech combined with style and not just one or the other.

What new trends have you seen for sunglasses in board sports for 2026?
Photochromic, namely coloured photohchromic being something asked for more and more. A lens which can handle a mix of light conditions. Also a rising interest in eco focused materials and processes.

Which segment of your 2026 offering do you expect to sell best and why?
Photochromic is proving to be stronger and stronger each season, and our chrome finished VANTAGE line of lenses is ahead of the game in this segment. No longer are photochromic lenses something which look goofy when they allow in more light.

What new frame shapes and colours are in your 2026 offer?
This year in our performance range will see a new frame design/colourway dropped every month during Summer to add some fun to the mix. This goes from classic tortoise havannas on performance shapes, to metallic coatings and unique prints.

Which lens technologies from your 2026 offer are most in demand?
Its all about Vantage colour chromed photochromic for us. Colour finished lenses which transition from CAT 1-3 and from the outside nobody will notice – only the user will experience the change as the light changes.

Have you introduced any new lens colours and tints in your 2026 offering?
Mainly the colour chromings on Photochromic which is something very new.

Any noteworthy sustainable practices in your production and shipping processes this year?
We took a step to focus on the production of sunglasses frames using reclaimed fishing nets from Taiwan and we achieved this together with our partner Sea Shepherd. So this special line being released this Summer will see all those models made from reclaimed fishing nets.

What are your marketing stories?
Sea Shepherd line of sunglasses made from reclaimed fising nets launching now, with 15% of sales being donated to ocean projects – these sunglasses actual make a difference in keeping our ocean playground diverse and clean. VATAGE Photochromic lenses are simply the peak of lens tech out there right now – one lens for all day, and nobody will know you are wearing them.

How are you supporting retailers to sell this category?
The Sea Shepherd range comes with a POS display made from reclaimed beach trash in Bali – a great highlight to the already strong Sea Shepherd story. Also we support retailers by being an independent brand, so we can help with stock movements to reduce risk, change things out which move slow, etc.
