Nitro Splitboarding F/W 2026/27 Preview
Retail Buyers Guide: Splitboarding F/W 2026/27 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand: Nitro
Interviewee: Marketing Team
How would you describe the 2024/25 splitboard season in terms of market performance and consumer demand?
Demand showed first signs of relief but sales are still slow after seasons with simply too much product in the market
What major trends are shaping the splitboard market (pricing, consumer preferences, backcountry participation)?
Reduced SKU count with a streamlined offering
From changing consumer behavior to tariffs and supply chain stress, what’s been the biggest challenge for your brand recently?
All of the above
How are you supporting retailers in selling this category?
We provide a one-stop shop, covering all aspects of splitboarding: starting from a wide range of boards including fitted skins, the Vertical hiking boot and Nitro’s colab binding with Spark R&D. We offer a variety of touring and backcountry specific backpacks and hiking poles. All supported by a brand focusing on distribution & retail and the best possible after sales support.
SPLITBOARD SPECIFIC
What trends or innovations in construction, shapes, or functionality (skinning, transitions, riding) are you highlighting in your 26/27 range?
Diversity: Nitro offers a compact, yet highly diverse splitboard lineup: From technical, skinning- oriented models like the Doppelgänger, to the Alternator FX Split, an all-mountain fun machine, to entry level and even kids/youth splitboards.
Are you using new materials in your splitboards (inserts, edges, cores, sidewalls, resin, glues, wood types, bases, top sheets, wax, etc.)?
Nitro’s Speed Formula II base has been upgraded to a new sintered running base made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. Not just faster, but also more transparent to make the boards graphic brighter and poppier.
How are you incorporating sustainability and ethical production into your boards (materials, processes, lifecycle, packaging)?
In an effort to further reduce the CO2 footprint of our products, our Snowboards are made with 100% solar power coming straight from the factories own solar power plant. Additionally, the use of water-based inks, recycled materials in our tops, bases and edges as well as the use of bio-based resins increases the sustainability of our products.
Are you putting a stronger emphasis on particular ranges (e.g., freeride, expedition, lightweight touring, women’s-specific, entry-level) for 26/27?
we focus on everything we do….
SPLITBOARD BINDINGS SPECIFIC
What new innovations are you introducing in splitboard bindings (buckles, straps, highbacks, baseplates, heel cups, etc.)?
Our split board binding has been entirely updated with new straps and a new buckle system. The main goal was to reduce weight without compromising performance. Additionally, our splitboard binding is based on Spark R&D’s leading system, providing users with confidence and an easy-to-use experience.
Are you using new materials in bindings for 26/27? If so, what and why?
Materials remain largely unchanged, but we’ve significantly enhanced the overall design of our new Speedwheel 3.0 buckle system, while the new buckle system excels on durability and ratcheting power, the low profile silhouette prevents unintended releases during the hike up.
SPLITBOARD BOOTS SPECIFIC
Are you introducing new materials or construction methods in boots (outer shell, reinforcements, cushioning, support, grip)?
To protect the boot against molded toe straps without padding and the use of crampons, the toe construction of our Vertical boot has been upgraded with on-molded Endure® Gravity Foam, providing highest abrasion resistance.
Are there new developments in liner technology or liner programs for 26/27?
We’re upgrading our Flex Toe, a feature introduced by Nitro more than 20 years ago and since copied widely within the industry: With an even more flexible yet thermally insulating material for the toe area, our boots now offer even more comfort and easily accommodate different foot lengths left and right, a common occurrence largely overlooked in boot fitting.
What lacing systems will you emphasize for your splitboard boots, and why?
In addition to its TLS+ external lacing, the Venture boot now offers our new Micro Adjustable Heel Lock: Operated by an external BOA® mechanism, this feature is specifically effective in hiking mode, where the boot feel can be adjusted quickly for easy or demanding terrain.
