Vans Shop Riot 2018

Press Release: Beginning in Germany and Portugal this weekend, before heading across most EMEA territories including UK, France, Italy, Spain, Israel, Benelux & Scandinavia… the Vans Shop Riot Series will further illustrate Vans’ ongoing commitment to the core stores and ultimately, the roots of the biggest individual success stories in skateboarding.

Locally, each country sees the top shop teams rioting it out for one day in one of their best Skateparks. It’s a strict street contest. As for the competition format, it’s one vs the other in true riotus fashion and there can only be one winner! Then from a pan-European perspective, each countries winning team will qualify for an all-expenses paid trip to the European Shop Riot Finals.

For the past couple of years, Vans have partnered with a relevant Skate Artist on the creative execution. This year Vans team up with UK artist, Phil Hackett. His clients include The BBC, GQ, Titus Skateshop, Friendship Skateboards, and many more. Phil has been skating since the early ’90s, and recently produced a series of illustrative books and prints based on this theme.  Phil says “ the chance to collaborate with Vans for this year’s Shop Riot has been a dream job to date, furthermore being given such creative freedom has made it even more enjoyable”.

Every year, the Shop Riot Finals are held in a different country. For 2018, we’ve partnered with Spitfire, and the finals will take place in Milan, Italy in early October.

About Vans Shop Riot

Vans Shop Riot is an original concept by Vans, promoting Europe’s finest Street Skaters, whilst offering the Core Skateboard scene & Skateshops in Europe an authentic platform for recognition & community. Skate Shops are the backbone of Skateboard Culture, and Vans Shop Riot is dedicated to Skate Shops & their teams, with this original series of contests across Europe. It’s the perfect opportunity for European Skate Shops to showcase they are an integral part of their local scene, as well as highlighting they have the best kids in their roaster.

Vans Skateboard Drive

For each Shop Riot stop Vans invites you to bring you’re used skateboard parts in order to collect and build completes. The idea of this is with the intention of giving them back to local non-profit organizations/skateboard schools in each market. We all know that you have an old board, set of trucks… wheels that can be still skated and have a second life, therefore we invite you to bring them and give people who are in need a chance to ride a new board. Share in Vans passion for skateboarding!
