Burton Snowboard Bindings F/W 2026/27 Preview

Retail Buyers Guide:  Snowboard Bindings F/W 2026/27 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand:  Burton
Interviewee: Marketing Team

How would you describe the 2024/25  snowboard binding season in terms of market performance and consumer demand?
It was a tough snow season in Europe, paired with political and environmental uncertainty. Nevertheless, riders showed up and consumers demand is there. We are cautiously optimistic about the season ahead.

What current trends are shaping the snowboard binding market (pricing, consumer preferences, retail shifts, rider demographics)?
There is a lot going on in the bindings market, different platforms are competing for the riders’ attention and market share, from strap bindings to Step On® and hybrid systems.

From changing consumer behavior to tariffs and supply chain stress, what’s been the biggest challenge for your brand recently?
Tariffs and the uncertainty they bring around production, pricing, and inventory have certainly been a challenge.

BRAND FOCUS

What is your brand’s core mission or philosophy, and how does it influence the way you design and position your bindings?
We are leaders in snowboarding, with riders at our core. This guides everything we do including our product design and development. We are continuing to push the boundaries and set the standard in innovation and creative design.

How has your brand evolved in the snowboard binding market over the past few years?
For 50 years, everything we’ve done has started with one simple question: What’s best for the rider? And that won’t change in the next 50.

Who is your target rider for the 26/27 season, and how has that profile changed in recent seasons?
For the 26/27 season we are focusing on that next generation of riders. This is a shift towards a younger target rider while still valuing and catering to the needs of our Burton loyalists.

Which product ranges or binding styles do you anticipate driving the most growth in 26/27?
Step On® remains our main growth driver, and we’re not taking our foot off the gas when it comes to further evolving and innovating our Step On® line. That said, we are shifting our focus slightly to a ride first, platform second approach. Our commitment is to deliver the best snowboard bindings, both Step On® and strap. For winter 26/27 you will see some exciting updates to our strap bindings as well.

BINDING SPECIFIC

What new technical innovations are you introducing for 26/27 (buckles, straps, highbacks, baseplates, heel cups, etc.)?
For 26/27 we are introducing brand new Step On® Re:Flex baseplate & heelcups, aligning function and aesthetic with our Step On® EST® bindings. In addition to the new Re:Flex baseplate & heelcup design, the Step On® X binding gets another upgrade with the new Heel Grabber technology, creating a new level of connection between Heel Cup & Heel Hoop when the boot is engaged. Our Step On® EST® bindings will receive an update with the addition of Performance Tower components to the baseplate for easier entry plus greater response in heel turns. On the strap side of our bindings line, the Freestyle binding, our entry price point, receives a well-deserved hi-back update.

Do you have any new design directions, collaborations, or special editions for the 26/27 line?
We are working on some exciting experimental binding designs, like the Step On® X hi-back graphic being created with a magnetic ink process, or the Step On® Lexa X being hand sprayed, with a unique graphic application every time.

Are you developing or expanding quick-entry / step-in binding systems, and how do you see demand for them evolving?
In addition to the product innovation we are bringing to the Step On® line, we are lowering the barrier to entry into Step On® by expanding our price range at the lower end. We’re lowering our entry price points, both in Step On® boots and Step On® bindings to reach even more riders and facilitate adoption.

Are you focusing on specific customer segments (freeride, freestyle, women’s-specific, youth, entry-level) for 26/27?
Our binding offering is targeted at all riders, all terrains and skill levels. For winter 26/27 we have a special focus on the up-and-coming new generation of riders, with key model updates, designs, and price points speaking to this customer.
