Retail Buyers Guide: Snowboard Bindings F/W 2026/27 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand: Bent Metal Binding Works
Interviewee: Paul Ferrel - Product Manager
How would you describe the 2024/25 snowboard binding season in terms of market performance and consumer demand?
The 2024/25 season was solid across the board. We saw strong demand from riders of all levels getting into the sport. Fast-entry and hybrid systems really picked up steam, thanks to the convenience they offer, but traditional two-strap bindings are still going strong with core riders. Overall, it was a season where people were clearly willing to invest in quality gear that delivers performance and reliability.
What current trends are shaping the snowboard binding market (pricing, consumer preferences, retail shifts, rider demographics)?
We’re seeing a bunch of shifts in the binding world right now. First off, fast-entry systems like Supermatic® and other speed-entry bindings are gaining serious traction—riders love the convenience, especially on busy resort days. That said, traditional two-strap bindings are still going strong, especially with core riders who want full control and adjustability. Specialization is growing, people want to dial in their setup, whether it’s park laps, pow days, or all-mountain cruising. Upgrades like advanced composite materials in our patented Drive Plates, and more responsive flex systems are also driving interest, especially in the mid-to-premium range. On the retail side, online shopping keeps growing, but specialty shops are still key for hands-on fitting and advice. And we’re seeing more younger riders and women getting into the sport, which is pushing brands to offer more inclusive sizing and design options.
From changing consumer behavior to tariffs and supply chain stress, what’s been the biggest challenge for your brand recently?
Biggest challenge lately?
Supply chain and tariffs. Costs have gone up, timelines have gotten unpredictable, and we’ve had to stay flexible to keep things moving. So balancing all that has kept us on our toes.
BINDING SPECIFIC
What new technical innovations are you introducing for 26/27 (buckles, straps, highbacks, baseplates, heel cups, etc.)?
BMBW has several innovations this year in our traditional two strap category. First off on our new Mens’ Freestyle T-Zero model has an exciting strap innovation. The Fast Action Toe Strap is designed for riders who value speed and simplicity when getting into their bindings. Its streamlined design keeps the strap connected when you step out, so re-entry is as easy as grabbing the toe buckle and clicking down—no fiddling, no delays. For 26/27, the Men’s Solution gets a performance boost with the new Over-Drive Plate—a high performance evolution of our Flex Control Drive Plate, built for advanced riders seeking max response and terrain feedback. A larger carbon composite panel amplifies energy transfer and precision, while a repositioned EVA footbed absorbs shock and creates a direct boot-to-carbon connection for unmatched board feel. The stripped-down carriage design keeps only the essentials—front hooks and rear clip—for a lighter, more responsive ride.
Are you developing or expanding quick-entry / step-in binding systems, and how do you see demand for them evolving?
BMBW brought automatic entry to the lineup with the addition of Supermatic® Technology last season. Now, we expand the offering with SPEED-IN Technology—a new semi-automatic category that bridges traditional two-strap bindings and full automation. Our new SPEED-IN models enhance the ease and speed of two-strap setups while offering a lighter-weight alternative to full automation. When we say lightweight, we mean it, you’re not going to believe how lightweight they are till you get them in your hands. Three distinct models to choose from—all-mountain flex to ultralight freestyle and pro-level response—SPEED-IN delivers the ride you’re looking for. Together with our versatile Two-Strap line and the game-changing Supermatic® system, BMBW now offers a complete spectrum of binding technology—so riders can choose the fit, feel, and function that matches their preference, style and priorities.
