Press Release: O’Neill Wetsuits launches Rookie Rippers, a new youth surfing programme with team surfer and WSL superstar Jordy Smith. Bringing like-minded and talented young surfers together for three days of coaching, free surfing and expression sessions, Rookie Rippers will take place at Surf Snowdonia in Wales from 26th – 29th September 2018. With only ten places up for grabs, the digital search begins now via Instagram.

Descending on the UK’s Wavegarden this Autumn, O’Neill Rookie Rippers will set up camp in the Conwy Valley for a series of landlocked surfing sessions. With peeling left-handers and right-handers, ten lucky finalists will get the chance to tackle the man-made waves of the Welsh mountain surf spot under the watchful eye of Jordy Smith. Also joined by Chris Gallagher Stone, US Olympic Surf Team Technical Coach and Jordy’s personal surf coach, winners will receive intensive training sessions, instant performance feedback and video analysis. Culminating in a relaxed Rookie Rippers Expression Session on the final day, surfers will get the chance to put their newly learned skills to the test and bag a Rookie Rippers trophy and other cool prizes.

For a chance to score a place at the Rookie Rippers Surf Camp and visit the UK’s inland wave lagoon, O’Neill invites any budding young surfer aged between 13-17 to upload a video of their surfing skills to Instagram and tag @oneilleurope and #RookieRippers.

Jan Michaelis – European Marketing Manager, O’Neill Wetsuits: “Rookie Rippers is a project we have been waiting to reveal for some time now. It’s a community building surf experience that we hope will unite some of the best up-and-coming surfers from across Europe. The main aim of the surf camp is to offer coaching and analysis, as well as mentoring from the world’s most talented surfers and coaches.  To top it all off, we have added a competitive element where participants can apply their newly acquired skills. We are excited to run the Rookie Rippers event at Surf Snowdonia, one of our key partnership locations. Surf Snowdonia gives us guaranteed waves in a perfect training environment. I cannot think of a better location to run the first event.

Following a long day in the water mastering new techniques, surfers get to chill-out in the lagoon-side hot tubs, fill up on a freshly cooked BBQ, enjoy movie screenings and finally get some rest in the on-site glamping pods.
