Retail Buyers Guide: Womens Outerwear F/W 2026/27 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand: JONES
Interviewee: Jones Marketing
In 2 sentences – how was the women’s snow outerwear market in 2025/26?
The snow outerwear market in 2025/26 saw a continued trend in riders choosing to invest in quality outerwear that delivers on weatherproofing, durability and versatility or over short-term savings and underperforming gear. Our new unisex MTN Surf Tweaker Outerwear responded to this demand among the younger all-mountain demographic with a fully seam-sealed 20K/20K collection that delivered on youthful style while maintaining the high standards we set for performance, durability and sustainability.
What are the main trends you take your inspiration from for 2026/27?
Rather than chasing seasonal trends, we looked inward – to our brand’s roots. Jeremy’s Deeper, Further, and Higher films were seminal moments in snowboard history. Our expanded and updated pinnacle outerwear collection carries that legacy forward as a three-part offering: Deeper (brand-new 2L GORE-TEX set), Further (formerly Shralpinist Stretch 3L), and Higher (formerly Shralpinist GORE-TEX 3L). Both Deeper and Further Outerwear are available in women’s specific colors, sizing and fits, and offer some of the best technical performance, comfortable and durable outwear on the market. We continue to prioritize long-term design over short trends – enduring styles and true resort-to-backcountry versatility that won’t date after one winter. Nature is our constant reference, not only for color but for how we build: our outerwear is made from 100% recycled materials and we’re among a select few brands using recycled 750+ fill RENU down in some of our insulation. These steps toward circularity take time and effort, but it’s a process we’re fully committed to.
What new jacket fits and pant silhouettes are coming out in 2026/27?
Fits have relaxed, reflecting where the market has moved over the last 2–3 seasons, but we keep articulation and mobility dialed for touring and inbounds riding You’ll also notice unisex options are becoming increasingly popular in our line, such as the MTN Surf Tweaker Series, as well as some of our insulating pieces.
Tell us about colours and prints:
Our palette is built to mix across past and future seasons, and we tightened it further for 26/27 to make merchandising easier. Dark, earthy tones like Midnight Green can easily pair with the Glacier Gray. Of course, we will always keep a safety color in the line, as this is requested by the team and many backcountry riders. Nature remains the constant source of inspiration and can be seen in the color range for 26/27. We’ve stepped away from patterns this season to let bold, nature-inspired block colors do the talking.
Any *NEW* technical stories with regards to fabrics and materials?
For 26/27 we’re introducing three meaningful material upgrades that raise protection, durability and sustainability:
- GORE-TEX 2L ePE, featured in our Deeper Outerwear: New for 26/27 and “Guaranteed to Keep You Dry” in inclement conditions. Fully seam-sealed and built for everyday resort use with backcountry capability.
- Freudenberg comfortemp® insulation, featured in all insulated outerwear: Updated insulation made from post-consumer plastic bottles, delivering sustainable warmth across a broad range of conditions.
How are you addressing sustainability topics, not only in production of your products (materials, transportation, packaging) but also their after-life / repurposing?
We’re constantly learning, evolving, and working towards improving sustainability without compromising the performance and durability levels we set across the line. All our outerwear is built from recycled materials (in most cases 100%), our outerwear and apparel fabrics are made without PFAS (including PFOA) and finished only with PFC-free DWRs to keep “forever chemicals” out of our supply chain. We source fabrics from OEKO-TEX® and/or bluesign® certified mills and are close to reaching 100% plastic-free packaging. Just as important is what happens after purchase: our lifetime guarantee covers construction defects, and we help with repairs through EU partners – such as Greenwolf – so riders can keep gear in service for longer. It’s ongoing work, but each step moves us toward lower-impact products with a longer lifespan.
How are you targeting the female boardsports clients?
We design for women first – meaning women’s-specific fits, articulation, and sizing, plus colorways that merchandise cleanly across the line. For 26/27 we’re adding the new women’s Deeper insulated jacket and shell pants, while our growing Unisex collection gives riders more choice in fit and style without forcing a gendered decision. Our softgoods designer, Heida Birgisdottir, has an incredible wealth of knowledge in snowboard outerwear and apparel design. Having worked extensively throughout the industry, we’re incredibly fortunate to have her input in shaping the line.
Any trends that your brand is moving away from?
We aim to keep our line quite consistent from one season to the next, often favoring evolutions rather than major overhauls or departures from existing styles. For 26/27, we’re discontinuing anoraks and shifting more of our options towards pants, not bibs, since that’s what most riders are choosing. We still offer a bib option in the MTN Surf collection, but the rest of the women’s and unisex collections now feature pants. Our line remains quite consistent, with evolutions rather than major overhauls or departures from existing styles. Perhaps one gradual shift is that we’re leaning into pants over bibs for more of our outerwear this season as most riders seem to be opting for this style nowadays. We still offer bib options in the MTN Surf collection,
What are your big marketing campaigns for 2026/27?
Our big story is our all-new Deeper Outerwear, featuring GORE-TEX 2L ePE. It sits within our new Deeper, Further and Higher outerwear series. The new women’s specific range features an insulated jacket and shell pants. Riders who want the guaranteed protection of GORE-TEX combined with the considered design and sustainability offered by Jones will love this new addition to our line. It is positioned squarely within one of the highest-demand categories in snowsports outerwear and can be worn for every day of the season, anywhere on the mountain. Secondly, we’re releasing a new unisex down jacket: the Max Re-Up Down 750+ Hooded Jacket. Built for the coldest climates, it’s the warmest jacket we’ve ever made. It uses the same 750+ high fill power recycled down as our Ultra Re-Up Down 750+ Jacket – but more of it – for an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio that’s still lightweight and packable. Whether it’s for an arctic expedition, a summit push, or back at camp when the temperatures drop, it will keep you warm when it matters most.
