Retail Buyers Guide:  Snowboards F/W 2026/27 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand:  Nidecker
Interviewee: Antoine Floquet – Snowboard Product Line Manager

How would you describe the 2024/25 snowboard season in terms of market performance and consumer demand?
AF : Last season was a strong one overall, and we’re really happy with both sales and rider feedback. It was clearly a ‘boot year’, but our other categories – especially boards and bindings – also performed really well.

What major trends are shaping the snowboard market (pricing, consumer preferences, rider demographics, retail shifts)?
AF : Heading into an Olympic year, the ‘back to camber’ trend is undeniable, along with a growing appetite for snappier, more responsive boards. Riders are looking for precision and energy underfoot, without sacrificing the freedom to get creative.

From changing consumer behavior to tariffs and supply chain stress, what’s been the biggest challenge for your brand recently?
AF : Adapting to change is part of our DNA. The biggest challenge is staying nimble – keeping our design process creative even when external pressures demand efficiency. A perfect example is the new Tape Deck – a skate-inspired ride wrapped in a retro twin shape with playful graphics. It’s a bold new direction for us, featuring five iconic artworks with our own ‘Ned’ twist, and it shows what we can do when we stay focused on what gets riders stoked rather than getting caught up in industry noise.

BRAND FOCUS

What is your brand’s core mission or philosophy, and how does it influence snowboard design and development?
AF : Our brand tagline says it all: Different by Design. Everything we do is driven by innovation, quality, and individuality. We design with intent – each product has to bring something fresh to the table.

How has your brand’s role in the snowboard market evolved in recent years?
AF :  We’ve been making boards for a long time (since 1984) and we’ve always been a brand that pushes new technology. But with the more recent launch of Supermatic, we’ve played a major role in reshaping the binding market – offering the first truly automatic system that works with any boot. That success opened an opportunity for us to improve the whole boot/binding interface, with boots that are optimised for this new generation of fast entry bindings. So there’s a lot of momentum around the brand, and we’re continuing to build on it. On the boards side, we’ve redefined state-of-the-art construction with the fifth generation of the Megalight – a board that took years to develop and sets a new benchmark for lightweight performance. That focus on innovation runs through everything we do: if there’s a better way to make it, we’ll find it.

Who is your target rider for the 26/27 season, and how has this profile changed compared to the past?
AF : Our target hasn’t really changed – we design for the full spectrum of riders. Over the last couple of years we’ve added more true twin shapes to better serve the park and freestyle crew who want to get creative. But beyond that, the philosophy remains the same: build each board for a specific purpose, from beginner-friendly shapes to high-end freeride weapons.

Which product ranges or categories do you expect to drive the most growth in 26/27?
AF : After a big ‘boot year’ and strong growth in bindings, we expect the focus to shift back toward boards next season.

SNOWBOARD SPECIFIC

What trends or developments in construction, shapes, and innovation are guiding your 26/27 snowboard range?
AF : Rounded boards are back on trend along with camber and 90s fashion more generally. Our true twin line taps into that, particularly the new Tape Deck – which has a steep kick at the nose and tail like those old school jib boards. But we’re always looking to move things forward, so we’ve blended  this vintage geometry with the latest materials and construction.

What new materials or material innovations are you using — inserts, edges, cores, sidewalls, resin, glues, base material, top sheet, wax, or others?
AF : We’re expanding our Orbital Cushioning™ technology to more models this year. Having launched it on our flagship Megalight, it’s now featured on the Sensor Mons, Sensor Pro, Odyssey, Mosquito, Smoke & Gun. The system builds urethane dampening into the board right beneath your feet, reducing vibrations from the inserts. Nidecker actually pioneered the 4×2 insert standard back in the day, and we see this as the next chapter in board connection. Smoother turns, less fatigue.

How are you incorporating sustainability and ethical production into your boards (materials, processes, lifecycle, packaging)?
AF : We’re constantly working to reduce our environmental footprint – through smarter material sourcing, longer-lasting construction, and more efficient logistics. Sustainability isn’t a separate project for us; it’s integrated into the way we design and produce every board.

What design directions are you taking — graphics, patterns, collabs, or signature editions?
AF : We always adapt our graphics to the intended rider and riding style. This season, we’ve let the creative spirit of Ned (our freestyle mascot) shine through our true twin collection – particularly the new Tape Deck, which blends an old school shape with vintage artwork that’s been given a little twist (or rather, a twisted smile!). The Sensor Pro carries a strong team identity – the two wrestlers on the topsheet are actually our American riders Cooper Branham and Taylor Gold, who we got into the ring for a shoot last summer. Mons Røisland’s signature model (the Sensor Mons) is another highlight – he’s kept the 90s look from last season but developed a fresh graphic that speaks to his viking roots.

Are you focusing on particular rider groups (freeride, freestyle, all-mountain, women’s-specific, youth, beginner) for 26/27?
AF : We cater to every category, but the thread running through all of them is intention. Whether it’s a true twin for the park or a powder board for the backcountry, each model brings something distinct to the table. These are boards with a ride feel you’ll remember and graphics you’ll want to hang on your wall. Different by Design isn’t just a tagline – it’s how we build.
