Nitro Snowboard Boots F/W 2026/27 Preview

Retail Buyers Guide:  Snowboard Boots F/W 2026/27 Retail Buyer’s Guide
Brand:  Nitro
Interviewee: Tommy Delago, President

How would you describe the 2024/25 snowboard boot season in terms of market performance and consumer demand?
Overall, the market felt strong and stable. This season we experienced growth in North America, while maintaining a solid and steady position in Europe. Korea and Japan continued to perform well, but China saw its first significant decline after years of consistent growth, mainly due to weaker consumer demand.

What major trends are currently shaping the snowboard boot market (pricing, consumer preferences, retail shifts)?
We see significant potential for our Step On boots. We believe this is where the most impactful improvements for riders can be made. Since Nitro Boots are already well known for their exceptional fit, we are actively exploring Step On opportunities to bring even greater comfort and performance to our customers.

From changing consumer behavior to tariffs and supply chain stress, what’s been the biggest challenge for your brand recently?
The constant changes and uncertainty around tariffs have definitely been the biggest headache. On the other hand, shifts in consumer behavior are actually in line with our approach to the market. As a 100% authentic snowboard brand, we see riders increasingly looking for genuine brands they can trust — and that’s exactly where we feel at home.

BRAND FOCUS

What is your brand’s core mission or philosophy, and how does it influence snowboard boot development?
HOLY FIT! That’s it in a nutshell. All boot brands claim fit and that’s legitimate. However, it’s our approach that makes Nitro’s boot fit so specific. We consciously build our boots ‘From the Inside Out’: Starting with cushioning, comfortable layers directly against the sensitive areas of your feet, we gradually and specifically increase support towards the outer shell, tweaking it wherever needed. As a rider, you know that the fit of your boots can make or break your riding day, and we take this challenge seriously. We’re all riders and we want to have fun on the mountain, so no cutting corners on boot fit!

How has your brand evolved in the snowboard boot category over the past few years?
We seriously got into boot design and production in the late 90’s when we combined our ideas with the deep know-how of Italian shoemaking wizards, which immediately boosted our products to the top of the pack. The Clicker® trend of the early 2000s also helped showcasing the quality of our fit. Today, with an in-house R&D, design, sourcing and QC team, our focus on boots is huge. The ‘Holy Fit’ campaign shows we’re taking pride in the quality and craftmanship of our boots, both in classic and Step On models, where – once again – the fit of your boots decides on the performance of your system.

Who is your target rider for 26/27, and how has this profile shifted compared to recent seasons?
As we embrace all of snowboarding, we don’t single out a specific ‘target rider’. We have been on this path for a while now and it feels great but of course it is different and more challenging from a brand building perspective than being just a ‘core’, ‘backcountry’ or ‘park’ brand.

Which boot ranges or categories (freestyle, freeride, all-mountain, beginner) do you expect to drive the most growth in 26/27?
In boots, we hardly categorize between freeride, freestyle, all mountain and the like. Many of our top freestyle pros are riding the Capital or Select, our stiffest boots that you’d probably put in the All mountain or carving box. And Marcus’ Team Pro boot is also not the softest on the rack, while some all-mountain riders prefer softer model. It’s really all a matter of taste, feel and riding style. With that said, we did make a specific effort in the lower segments, improving the boot cosmetics while not giving away and inch of our Holy Fit!

BOOTS SPECIFIC

Are you introducing any new or innovative materials (outer shell, reinforcement, cushioning, support, grip) in your 26/27 collection?
Heel Durability: With the introduction of some more abrasive binding concepts, we have seen the need to increase the durability or our boots’ heel section. In addition to our already strong heel stitching construction, we have added a variety of updates, from shape and material changes to injected heel counters. Toe Durability: As a consequence of more purely molded toe straps without padding, also the toe constructions of many Nitro boot models have been made more durable. Depending on boot style and price point, his has been achieved through various efforts, from design and material changes where we use more highly durable Endure® material, to fully molded toe caps.

What updates or innovations are you making to liner technology or liner programs?
We’re upgrading our Flex Toe, a feature introduced by Nitro more than 20 years ago and since copied widely within the industry: With an even more flexible yet thermally insulating material for the toe area, our boots now offer even more comfort and easily accommodate different foot lengths left and right, a common occurrence largely overlooked in boot fitting.

What lacing systems will you emphasize in the 26/27 boot line, and why?
True to our creed of diversity, we offer various lacing systems, catering to different requirements and markets:
Our proprietary TLS and TLS+ systems are the choice of most of our pro riders, so logically, many of our high end and pro models feature this lacing solution. BOA® lacing is being offered on most of our models in different configurations as a great alternative to TLS or standard lacing. And on a few selected models such as the Team and Venture, we also offer standard laces for riders who prefer the simplicity of just tying a not. In addition to our proven Re/Lace internal lacing system, we’re also introducing our new Heel Lock and Heel Lock Pro systems. Operated by an external BOA mechanism, they allow quick and easy adjustment of your ankle fit, specifically on the new Tam Step On and Fate Step On models, as well as the Vertical Splitboarding boot.

What are the dominant design directions for 26/27 — patterns, colors, materials, artist collaborations, or partnerships?
Nitro boots are known for their clean and feature-driven style, and we continue with this design language and the new Capital boot is a perfect example. Obviously, we’re using the occasional design cue from athletic or skate shoes but try not to be all over the style and color map. Rider collabs are frequent, as we’re working closely with the team to develop and tweak our various models. Marcus Klevenalnd’s signature Team Pro model has made some serious impact in the high-end segment and is continuously improved, while our staple Team model is backed by riders like Eero Ettala and many other team riders. Bryan Fox, Hailey Langland and Christy Prior are taking influence on the Venture Pro, Crown and Monarch, respectively. On the external collab front, we’re offering a cool Venture x Motörhead boot as part of the Nitro x Motörhead capsule.

What steps are you taking toward sustainability and ethical production in boots (materials, processes, lifecycle, packaging)?
Making durable boots has the biggest impact on their sustainability, and that’s what we’re focusing on. High quality materials and craftmanship makes Nitro boots last longer for more days on the mountain. But we’re also using recycled rubber on certain soles and replace plastic bags with biodegradable material where possible. And our factories are running on solar power as another effective step towards more sustainability.

Are you focusing on any particular customer segments (freeride, freestyle, women’s-specific, youth, entry-level) for 26/27?
With the introduction of Step On versions of 4 more iconic Nitro boots, we have completed lining up standard and Step On boot designs, combining Nitro fit and feel with the market leading interface system. Our proprietary TLS system is used on the new Team and Fate, as well as the Venture and Monarch Step On boot models. And for better heel fit, they are either equipped with BOA® operated ankle straps or our new Heel Lock Pro system: Operated by an external BOA® H5 mechanism, it allows quick and easy adjustment of your ankle fit. And we offer BOA® lacing on the new Sentinel and Scala Step On boots.
