Stephanie Gilmore Wins Historic 7th Title

Stephanie Gilmore won an historic 7th World Title when title contender Lakey Peterson was eliminated from the Beachwaver Maui Pro in the early stages. The win took the 30-year-old Australian equal on CT wins with legendary surfer, Layne Beachley.

The final stop on the 2018 World Surf League (WSL) Women’s Championship Tour saw epic conditions on the same day that Keala Kennelly won the Big Wave Tour contested round the island at the Jaws Challenge at Pe’ahi. The men went into action after the women, with Billy Kemper paddling into the biggest wave of the competition, sitting deep in a monstrous Jaws barrelling right before it closed out. The men’s comp was soon called off as conditions were deemed unsuitable for paddle surfing. Que Kai Lenny and a show of tow-in surfing craziness.

The men’s Big Wave Tour stop at Pe’ahi looks set to run today.
