Brand Profile: Legacy, Morey & BZ – Rebuilding Iconic Bodyboarding Brands for the Modern Market
As two of the most iconic names in bodyboarding history, Morey and BZ have shaped the sport from its very beginnings. Now, with the launch of Legacy, these legendary brands are being revitalized with a fresh vision, combining heritage, innovation, and a strong commitment to the bodyboarding community.
Please tell us about the origins of Legacy, Morey and BZ Bodyboards?
Morey & Bz bodyboards were the original brands back in the 70’s. Tom Morey, founder of Morey Boogie also created the first bodyboard ever and helped bring bodyboarding to beaches worldwide. BZ became the main competitor of Morey during the 1980s and 1990s, and generations of bodyboarders have built strong connections with both brands.
Legacy was created with the mission of bringing back high-quality products with proper distribution, while supporting the bodyboarding community.

What are their key brand values?
Morey and Bz have always been the standard of the discipline with iconic models like the Morey Mach 7-7 or the BZ Diamond.
We maintain the core DNA of the brands, while adding modern construction techniques, refined details appreciated by core riders, and using the finest materials available—all produced in the best factories. Our global marketing stays true to the essence of bodyboarding.
Legacy is focused on quality and has its own distinct style. Our products are inspired by bodyboarding culture and history, but with a modern approach.
What sets Morey and BZ Bodyboards apart from other bodyboard brands on the market today?
We build our collections with the aim of meeting the needs of all bodyboarders—from beginners to professionals—by adding thoughtful details and a range of options. Importantly, our distribution model focuses on wholesale rather than direct-to-consumer sales, unlike many of our competitors. This approach supports surf shops, allowing them to achieve strong sales and good margins on our products.
Tell us about the two best products in each brand?
This season, clearly the Morey Mach 7 and the Morey Pierre Louis Costes.

What steps are you taking with the growing demand for sustainability?
We have quality products that last longer than the average boards. The expertise of Jeremy Arnoux as an engineer is a super value for the company. We use eco-friendly materials evevry time it’s possible: organic cotton t-shirts, recycled rubber for our Legacy swimfins and we build quality bodyboards that last many years offering different life cycles from buying in a surf shop, to second hand market, then keeping the board in your garage for friends and family. Quality products is in the center of the process.
Who do you see as the target audience for your bodyboards?
Our target is way more larger than the classic bodyboarding community. We can supply a family for their very first experience at the beach with the Morey Mach 12 offering a super fun board with cool style under 100€ budget. Then we can equip people who just want to catch some waves in the ocean to have fun, then we have boards for core bodyboarders who are slabs lovers and practice high level bodyboarding. Bodyboarding emerge in the 80’s because it was super fun and we also want to help surf shops to equip all the people who want to ride waves and shorebreaks.
How has the bodyboarding scene evolved since BZ & Morey were founded, and how have the brands adapted?
After phenomenal success in the 80’s & 90’s, the brand almost disappeared when new brands have been founded by a generation of professional bodyboarders. Bringing back these two legendary names in front of the scene was a kid dream and a super challenge. Stores answer is super positive and sales are even better than expected.

What’s your current take of the global bodyboarding industry?
Bodyboarding is a category that always existed. The bodyboarding specialists absorb mainly the top end boards sales but there is a huge space for affordable boards to enjoy waves at the beach with maximum security and fun. So many people go to the Ocean to enjoy outdoor activities, bodyboarding is an amazing opportunity to catch waves and this audience will be larger and larger in upcoming years. We received super good feedback from stores over the last seasons.
What’s next for Legacy, Morey and BZ?
We are going to continue to develop Morey & Bz in Europe with the help of our main ambassador Pierre Louis Costes. We also have Found and QCD bodyboards under our umbrella creating a very complete bodyboarding offer where all surf shops can find cool products for their customers. We also have swimfins offer with Legacy and a new brand called Duke for next season.
Our company has established a very good relationship with +100 surf shops. We have a super good logistic partner that makes our customers life easy and now we are ready to add new brands who want to grow in Europe.
