Brand: Head
Interviewee: Eva Knöpfle, Junior Marketing Manager
How would you describe the 2024/25 snowboard binding season in terms of market performance and consumer demand?
The 2024/25 season was a success across the board. Strong consumer demand, solid performance in Japan and North America, and steady momentum in Europe reflected the ongoing strength of the snowboarding segment. With more riders than ever investing in premium, high-performance gear, snowboarding continues to grow and inspire a new generation of enthusiasts.
What current trends are shaping the snowboard binding market (pricing, consumer preferences, retail shifts, rider demographics)?
We continue to see a clear shift toward higher price points, as riders are increasingly willing to invest in quality, comfort, and performance. Consumers are seeking durable bindings that offer intuitive adjustments and strong all- mountain versatility. Retail remains a key channel — while e-commerce continues to grow, in-store experiences and on-snow testing still play a decisive role in the purchase journey. We’re also observing a more diverse rider base, with growing interest from younger and female riders, driving demand for a wider range of sizes, fits, and styles.
From changing consumer behavior to tariffs and supply chain stress, what’s been the biggest challenge for your brand recently?
The market environment remains dynamic, yet we managed to keep our processes stable. Although logistics and sourcing costs continue to fluctuate, our strong, long-term partnerships with production facilities ensure both reliability and consistent quality. At the same time, consumer behavior has become more selective — riders are increasingly focusing on long-lasting, high-value products. This shift perfectly aligns with HEAD’s philosophy of durable design and consistent performance.
BRAND FOCUS
What is your brand’s core mission or philosophy, and how does it influence the way you design and position your bindings?
At HEAD Snowboards, COME RIDE WITH US is more than a slogan — it’s our mission. We believe snowboarding should be accessible, exciting, and performance-focused for everyone. That’s why we design our bindings to combine comfort, functionality, and reliability — so riders can focus on what they love most: the ride. From classic strap-in designs to fast-entry systems, our line-up adapts to every style, skill level, and preference — true to our philosophy of creating innovative products for every rider, everywhere.
How has your brand evolved in the snowboard binding market over the past few years?
HEAD has continued to strengthen its position in the snowboard binding market by focusing on performance, comfort, and versatility. Over the past few years, we have expanded our product line to include both traditional strap- in and fast-entry systems, catering to a wide range of riding styles and skill levels. We have also increased our presence in key markets while maintaining strong partnerships with retailers, ensuring riders can experience our products first-hand. Overall, our evolution reflects a commitment to innovation and meeting the diverse needs of the snowboarding community.
Who is your target rider for the 26/27 season, and how has that profile changed in recent seasons?
For the 26/27 season, our target rider remains anyone who values performance, comfort, and reliability on snow — from beginners to experienced all-mountain riders. Traditionally, HEAD has been strong in offering versatile bindings with plenty of technologies and features at accessible price points. In recent seasons, we’ve seen a shift toward a broader and more diverse audience, including younger riders and those exploring new riding styles. This evolution has encouraged us to expand our product line, offering both easy-to-use bindings for entry-level riders and high- performance options for more demanding riders, ensuring that every rider can enjoy the HEAD experience.
Which product ranges or binding styles do you anticipate driving the most growth in 26/27?
For 26/27, we expect growth across both fast-entry bindings and traditional strap-in models. Fast-entry systems continue to appeal to riders seeking convenience and versatility, while strap bindings attract those prioritizing precision, support, and all-mountain performance. Overall, growth will come from products that combine comfort, reliability, and adaptability, meeting the needs of riders at every skill level and riding style.

Are you exploring new materials, construction techniques, or performance features in your bindings?
Yes. For the 26/27 season, our focus is on the new EX Series and the RX TEAM, both introducing key innovations in construction, comfort, and performance:
The EX Series is built on a completely reengineered platform, ensuring enhanced heel hold, seamless boot integration, and optimal power transfer. It offers effortless comfort through shock-absorbing highback pads, the Asymmetric Ergo Fit Highback, a Full-Covered Footbed, and Auto Open Straps for quick and simple entry and exit. Riders benefit from superior control thanks to the newly engineered base, while an eco-conscious design with fewer parts and detachable connections simplifies maintenance and improves recyclability. The series includes EX ONE and EX FAY I, the latter featuring a women-specific highback for anatomical fit and all-day comfort. The new RX TEAM takes our Reclining Highback concept to the next level. It combines premium lightweight materials with Dampiflex cushioning for a smoother ride, Forward Lean Adjustment for a personalized stance, and reinforced buckles for extra durability. Designed for riders who want to ride more and strap less, it delivers reliable all-mountain performance without compromising comfort or control. Meanwhile, our other binding lines — such as FX and NX — remain consistent, providing the trusted reliability and comfort riders already know and value.
Do you have any new design directions, collaborations, or special editions for the 26/27 line?
For 26/27, our bindings continue to follow a clean and modern design language, focusing on functionality and timeless appeal. Most models feature bold yet minimal color themes such as black, white, and muted tones that easily match a wide range of boots, boards, and outerwear. Subtle details like logos, color accents, pattern contrasts, and the interplay of matte and glossy finishes give the products a refined, technical look. The new EX series highlights this direction with a clean, reengineered platform and an eco-conscious design, while the RX TEAM combines a premium, performance-driven aesthetic with lightweight materials and subtle detailing.
Are you developing or expanding quick-entry / step-in binding systems, and how do you see demand for them evolving?
Quick-entry systems remain an important part of our collection. With the RX line – and especially the new RX TEAM – we continue to refine our Reclining Highback technology, combining fast access with great all-mountain performance. Demand for these systems keeps growing, as more riders value convenience without giving up comfort, control, or compatibility.
What steps are you taking toward sustainability and ethical production in bindings — whether in materials, processes, or lifecycle?
We continue to rethink all our workflows from start to finish — from product development to packaging. Every step matters, and sustainability now plays a role in every decision we make. With the new EX series, we’ve introduced an eco-conscious design using fewer parts and detachable connections to reduce waste, simplify maintenance, and improve recyclability. At the same time, we keep optimizing our production and logistics processes — reducing packaging, eliminating plastic wherever possible, and using recycled or water-based materials for prints and finishes. We’re also working to make our efforts more transparent for our partners and consumers, because we believe that real progress comes from consistent, honest improvements at every level.
Are you focusing on specific customer segments (freeride, freestyle, women’s-specific, youth, entry-level) for 26/27?
HEAD remains strong in the mid to entry-level segment, offering bindings packed with smart technologies and features that deliver outstanding value without exceeding the budget. At the same time, we continue to expand our portfolio towards high-performance products – such as the new RX TEAM and EX ONE – to meet the expectations of more advanced and demanding riders. We also put great emphasis on our women-specific “FAY” models, which feature anatomically shaped highbacks and tailored comfort solutions. This balanced product strategy enables us to serve a wide audience, from beginners to experts, and from relaxed cruisers to performance-driven riders.
