Interviewee: Vincent Cadene, COO WIP & Mathis Bourgnon Sport Marketing Manager WIP

What is your confidence level regarding FW24 orders/preorders? Did retailers manage to clear their shelves of the former collections?
At WIP, we’re confident about the demand for FW24 orders and pre-orders. Our retailers and distributors have been very enthusiastic about our new 2024 products, especially our new neoprene range, and we’ve been working closely with them to ensure a smooth transition from previous collections.

Winter wetsuits are the second most expensive pieces of the surfer’s kit after the board itself: are high pricepoints a challenge in an inflationary context or are the surfers willing to pay for quality?
While we acknowledge the impact of inflation, we believe that surfers recognize and value the importance of quality in their gear. Our winter wetsuits are crafted with a focus on flexibility and durability, and our pricing reflects the use of cutting-edge materials and technologies. Surfers who prioritize these elements have consistently shown a willingness to invest in higher-priced, premium products.

Will FW24 be a season of carry-overs for your brand or are you pushing new models?
Forward WIP is committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation. With FW24, we are introducing new and enhanced models that showcase the latest advancements in wetsuit technology. While we respect the classics, this season is primarily characterized by the introduction of exciting, forward- looking designs and 3 distinct neoprene wetsuits. 5/4/3mm – 3/2mm – 1.5mm.

Neoprene foams can be both sustainable and high-performance nowadays. What rubber compound will you use in FW24?
In line with our commitment to sustainability and high performance, the FW24 uses neoprene manufacturing technologies. We use water-based glue, eliminating harmful and volatile organic compounds. WIP is a proud member of 1% For the Planet.

What technologies/constructions are your outer/inner linings made of?
The outer and inner linings of FW24 incorporate Doe-Dyed Yarn. This process of coloring yarn saves huge amounts of water while reducing energy consumption and water pollution. We are also continuing and improving our protection program which corresponds to the DNA of the WIP brand, by placing reinforcements in strategic locations on the wetsuits. These features bring us a significant differenciation from other classical wetsuits brands. These flexible, effective and discreet reinforcements are placed on the shins and knees which are particularly exposed in all Foil activities. Then you can focus your brain on your ride performance and freedom.

What are the latest updates/innovations among your women wetsuit collection?
Our FW24 women’s wetsuit collection features advances tailored to the specific needs of female surfers. Their wetsuits have gained 40% in flexibility with the new neoprene. The shape of the wetsuits uses WIP Tech 3DS. Their wetsuits feature WIPPEE technology, which gives surfers a small opening for easier urination.

Repair, recycle, upcycle ? How do you handle the afterlife of your wetsuits?
Forward WIP is committed to sustainability throughout the life cycle of its products. We work with local specialists to repair wetsuits wherever possible. In addition, we are actively working on recycling and upcycling initiatives to minimize the environmental impact of wetsuit disposal. Stay tuned for updates on the progress of our sustainability efforts.
