What are the current trends in sunglasses for board sports?
Lifestyle frames with pop colours incorporated into the design, especially the lenses are typically preferred by boarders. However, performance features are equally important, so we’ve strategically implemented these into our frame and lens technologies.
How are you segmenting your sunglasses?
We diversify our collection between 8-base sport styles and 6-base lifestyle frames. Within those collections, we offer floating options.
Where do you expect your biggest growth in 2023?
Based on Hobie’s Southern California heritage, we wanted to make sure that we added styles that stayed true to the brand’s roots in surf and skate. Some of these new styles include Cove, Flats, Vista and Pendleton, which have already received a very positive response from retailers.
What frame shapes and colours are most popular from your offering and why?
Medium/Large rectangular 6-base frames, such as our Coastal Float and Woody Sport styles with coloured mirrors. Smaller round frames like our Wrights style have been successful in crystal colours like crystal olive and crystal clear. Traditional Aviators, such as our Broad and Loma styles, remain strong sellers.
What lens technologies are you currently working with?
HYDROCLEAN™ LENSES
The lightweight Injected Polycarbonate HydroClean™ Polarized lenses are for active sports as well as everyday wear. Each lens is comprised of 100% polarized injected polycarbonate: the lightest lens material offered that is virtually shatterproof with hard coatings for scratch resistance.
What are the main materials used in your 2023 sunglasses offering?
-TR-90, TPX Floating Material and Monel Metal Frames.
Do you offer prescription glasses?
Yes, through our lens partner, Lensabl.
Anything new in terms of sustainability?
Working to reduce unnecessary plastics from our packaging and exploring the use of recycled materials.
How are you helping retailers sell this category?
We recently attended boot Düsseldorf to help our retailers promote the new 2023 collection.
